Win a free night in Manchester!

This week our Treasure Hunt will lead the winner to Manchester so we've been looking at what they could spend their time doing when they stay in our city centre hotel!

There are many things you can do... many obvious things like shopping, feasting, having a go on the eye... a trip to the museum or the art gallery but perhaps the most unusual thing you can do is to take a tunnel tour! Manchester has a mysterious world which goes on beneath the pavements, a network of rivers and canals... tunnels remaining from the second world war and even an atomic bunker from the 1950s! Don't worry about getting lost as these tours are guided and you can book a place and find out more here http://www.newmanchesterwalks.com

This tour would provide a stark contrast to the luxury and comfort of your room at Roomzzz! You can join the Treasure Hunt...

Clue No 1

How many grams of flour are there in our pancake recipe?

Follow us for the rest of the week to gather the clues and find the treasure!  Look through our blog and website and it will lead you to the prize... post your answer on our Facebook pages for Leeds or Manchester along with the phrase..."I am a Roomzzz Treasure Hunter and my answer is...." by 3pm on Friday and all the right answers will be placed into a pot, the lucky winner will be drawn at random!

Pancake anybody?

Yummmm! Today we are really glad that all our the rooms in our city centre accommodation and our hotel in Manchester have kitchens because we'll be making good use of them today!

Pancakes really are the best food - sweet or savoury they are sure to delight... everyone has an opinion on the best options for fillings! The traditional way is just a spoonful of sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice... or how about some maple syrup?

So to make the perfect pancake you need:-

  • 10g/4oz plain flour, sifted
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 200ml/7fl oz milk mixed with 75ml/3fl oz water
  • 50g/2oz butter
Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and make a well in the flour, break the eggs into well and then whisk away, gradually add the milk and water - keep whisking.

Melt the butter into the pan and get the pan really hot and drop in a ladle of the mixture- it should only take a minute and then you get to flip it! The second side cooks faster and then you have a wonderful pancake ready to take your favourite filling!

So Happy Pancake Day from Roomzzzz - get flipping!

Leeds City Roomzzz is a favourite...

Our accommodation in Leeds City Centre is a bit hit for a night out!

“1 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Stayed here for one night with a friend in November 2011 as we wanted a night out in Leeds. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel was great, it was 15 mins walk to the city centre and 2mins in a taxi which was very cheap! We even got to stay an exta 2 hours in the morning for £10.00 which I thought was ideal with a hangover! Rooms are very modern, spacious, clean and tidy. Could not fault this aparthotel at all! :)

Manchester gets FIVE stars!

We've had a number of FIVE star reviews of our Manchester city centre hotel recently... We love them all! SusanOuk was one of our faves...

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

A must stay if you are visiting Manchester. I stayed in a superior double room (I think they call it a Grande studio) and loved it! You have a fully equipped kitchenette, a huge king sized bed, a mini seating area with a couch, a bathroom with a long deep bath (for all of you 6ft and over like we both are you can actually stretch out in it!!) and a shower with a huge shower head that gives the rain fall effect, ipod docking station, and free internet with the mac provided. We took our own food and drink but if you forget they have a mini pantry down stairs and breakfast is also included in the price (make sure you are down stairs before 10.30). Oh and the staff are lovely too. I guess the only bad thing is the parking (I paid £19.40) and I have just read a review that says the staff give you a discount but I didn't know to ask for this :(. Apart from that fab, gorge hotel, the Ibis next door is £30 cheaper but no breakfast and no luxury, the choice is yours :)

Very pleased with my stay!

“Very pleased with my stay” - is what Lucy C from Sheffield wrote following her stay with us at our city centre hotel in Manchester....

Reviewed 29 January 2012

I booked the Liberty Suite for myself and my husband over a weekend in manchester. The room was large and had a great street view of Chinatown (nice big windows so didn't feel hemmed in). Good attention to detail and all the facilities you need for self catering. The shower room was also a good size with a nice big rain shower. There was a massive TV at the end of our bed so we could be ultra lazy!! I chose the Liberty room because of the dining table which made a difference if you want to dine in.

The Mac computer was a really good extra.

The location was great, very close to the city centre - about 10min walk from Picadilly station. The grab and go breakfast is at reception and you can grab & take it back to your room!

I forgot to take my earplugs with me but actually there wasn't much noise at all!

The only slight gripes I had was the room took a while to heat up and being january I did feel a bit cold when I first arrived - it took a good 2 hours before it felt warm. It would have been nice to have a heated towel rail in the bathroom, & lighting suitable for applying make up (!!). But really these are minor gripes and didn't affect my stay.

Overall I would say if you want luxury accommodation in manchester and you like the freedom of self catering this is a good value option. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: room 207 is a corner street view room with lots of windows so good view.

Want a free night in Leeds? See what our guests say...

We're running our Treasure Hunt again this week and the prize is a night on us in Roomzzz Leeds City... Why is this a good prize? Sunsetcat had this to say about a recent trip to our Leeds city centre hotel:-

“Excellent accommodation near the train station and city centre.”
5 of 5 starsReviewed 17 December 2011

The hotel is very conveniently located just a short walk away from the train station. Staff were friendly and helpful. For instance, I requested extra pillows for the room, and these were brought up before bedtime. I phoned reception to ask about rebooting the Mac in the room, and was given good advice on how to do that. The room itself comes with good facilities. Free wifi is always great. And my boyfriend and I were particularly taken by the lovely underfloor heating in the bathroom! The little kitchen was handy, as we got some ready meals from Marks & Spenser's at the station - again, only a few minutes walk away - and heated up those for dinner when we didn't feel like eating out. There are also plenty of nearby restaurants to eat at, if you don't want to prepare food for yourself.

There was enough closet space for an overnight stay, and also a little in-room safe. The room faced to the rear of the building, and was very quiet with little noise, despite over stay being on the weekend. The bed was very comfortable. If there was one thing I wasn't so keen on, the air conditioning didn't warm the room up as well as I'd have liked. But that aside, we had a very pleasant stay. I would certainly be happy to return, and would also recommend the hotel to friends.

We think that says it all... keep reading our blog this week for more clues to the treasure!
